Dr. Chris Elia is a board-certified neurosurgeon and dual fellowship trained in complex & minimally invasive spine surgery. I am a Michigan native and traveled all around the country throughout my training from Southern California, Seattle, and Philadelphia. My grassroots brought me back to Michigan to serve the community I grew up in.

In addition to general neurosurgery, my specialty areas include the use of minimally invasive spine surgical techniques, robotic and endoscopic spine surgery, artificial disc replacement, motion preservation spine surgery, complex spine reconstruction, spine deformity correction, and spine tumors.

My philosophy is that a healthy life begins with a healthy spine. Performing spine surgery is only a small piece of the puzzle; and arguably, the easiest part of the treatment plan. The more nuanced aspect of spine surgery is figuring out what specifically is the cause of the patient’s pain and deciding on the most appropriate surgery for the patient to have the best possible outcome. I achieve this by LISTENING to the patient and treating each patient as if it were my own family member. If I can’t convince myself that I would perform the same surgery on my mom or dad then I wouldn’t offer it to my patients.
